Ram Relaunch Lifts Stellantis N.A. Shipments 38%

Stellantis says North American vehicle shipments rose 38% in the second quarter as refreshed Ram and Jeep models reached dealers. The change could affect pickup availability, incentives and fleet buying decisions.

Ram Relaunch Lifts Stellantis N.A. Shipments 38%

Stellantis estimated that it shipped 445,000 vehicles in North America during the second quarter of 2026, a 38% increase from the same period a year earlier. The return of HEMI V8 power to the Ram 1500, the new Ram 1500 TRX SRT and several refreshed Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge products helped drive the increase. For pickup buyers and small fleets, the important question is not the corporate percentage alone, but whether more trucks on dealer lots improve selection, delivery times and negotiating room.

What changed in the second quarter

Across all regions, the automaker estimated consolidated shipments of 1.597 million units for the three months ended June 30. That was 150,000 more units than the 1.447 million reported for the comparable 2025 quarter, an increase of 10%. North America supplied 122,000 of that global unit gain, making it the largest contributor to the year-over-year improvement.

The company identified new or refreshed vehicles and powertrains as the main reason for the North American jump. Its list included the light-duty Ram 1500 with a HEMI V8, the Ram 1500 TRX SRT, refreshed Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee models, the Chrysler Pacifica, the all-new Jeep Cherokee and two- and four-door versions of the Dodge Charger SIXPACK. The shipment figure also included preparations ahead of a planned summer production shutdown.

Shipments are not the same as retail sales

A shipment is a vehicle delivered to a dealer, distributor, retail customer or fleet customer. It generally supports revenue recognition for the manufacturer, but it does not automatically mean that every unit has already been sold to an end user. That distinction matters when reading a large percentage increase. More factory-to-dealer movement can reflect stronger demand, a product launch, inventory rebuilding, timing around a plant shutdown or a combination of those factors.

Pickup shoppers should therefore watch local inventory and transaction prices rather than assume the 38% increase guarantees discounts. If Ram 1500 supply expands faster than retail demand, dealers may gain flexibility on incentives, trade values or configurations. If demand keeps pace, popular engines, trims and towing packages could still remain tight even while total shipments rise.

Why Ram availability matters to working owners

The Ram 1500 is a light-duty pickup, not a Class 8 tractor, yet it fills real jobs for mobile repair teams, contractors, roadside-service operators and businesses that move tools or lighter trailers. The restored V8 option also changes the comparison for buyers who had postponed a purchase because their preferred powertrain was unavailable. A wider powertrain mix can bring more shoppers back into the market, but engine preference should never replace a payload and towing calculation.

Before ordering, compare the certification label, payload rating, gross combined weight rating, axle ratio and hitch limits of the exact truck. Two pickups with similar exterior appearance can have very different working capacity because of cab, bed, drivetrain, suspension and option choices. Estimate the real weight of passengers, fuel, tools, parts, hitch hardware and trailer tongue load. A truck that is frequently overloaded can create premature tire, brake and suspension wear even when the engine feels strong.

What small fleets should watch next

More units entering the dealer network can help a fleet replace aging pickups sooner, but the purchase price is only one part of the decision. Ask for the complete out-the-door cost, commercial incentives, finance terms, warranty coverage and an estimated delivery date in writing. Compare insurance quotes before choosing a high-output trim, and confirm whether the local service department has technicians, diagnostic equipment and parts support for the selected engine and electronic systems.

Operators should also track inventory age. A recently shipped truck may differ from an older unit carrying the same model-year badge because of production timing, software updates or equipment changes. Record the vehicle identification number, build date and option codes before signing. If the truck will tow or carry tools every day, calculate expected fuel, tire and maintenance costs under that duty cycle instead of using an empty-truck estimate.

Growth was not uniform worldwide

Europe posted a 5% shipment increase to an estimated 762,000 units, supported by newer Stellantis products and higher volumes from the Leapmotor partnership. Middle East and Africa shipments declined 3%, South America declined 3%, and Asia Pacific was unchanged. The regional split shows that the global 10% increase depended heavily on North America rather than a synchronized recovery in every market.

The manufacturer is scheduled to release detailed second-quarter results on July 30. Those results should add financial context, including how inventory, pricing and product mix affected the business. Until then, shipment growth is a useful supply signal, not proof by itself that retail demand or profit improved at the same rate.

What the road hero should check

  • Verify payload and towing ratings on the exact door label and build sheet.
  • Inspect tire load range, pressure, tread condition and the spare before putting a new pickup to work.
  • Confirm brake, cooling and hitch requirements for the planned trailer and route.
  • Compare dealer inventory, incentives, warranty terms and service capacity instead of shopping by engine name alone.
  • Price insurance, fuel and preventive maintenance for the real duty cycle before approving a fleet purchase.

More supply can create opportunity, but the right deal is the truck that safely matches the job and keeps its cost predictable. Owners planning a work-truck purchase or maintenance budget can find practical shop and fleet resources at The Truck Savers. A strong engine does not correct an overloaded axle or an ignored service schedule. Metals never lie.
