International Roadcheck 2026: What Every Trucker Needs to Know Before May
The world's largest targeted truck inspection event returns May 12-14. Last year, 16.5% of inspected vehicles were put out of service.

π¨ Mark your calendars, truckers! The CVSA International Roadcheck is scheduled for May 12-14, 2026 β and if you're not prepared, you could be sitting on the side of the road.
What Is International Roadcheck?
It's the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world. During a 72-hour period, CVSA-certified inspectors across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico inspect nearly 15 trucks every minute.
Since 1988, over 1.8 million roadside inspections have been conducted during this annual event.
The Numbers That Matter π
- π 16.5% of inspected vehicles were put out of service in 2021
- π€ 5.3% of drivers were removed from the road
- π ~5% fewer one-person trucking companies operate during Roadcheck Week
- π But there's an upside: 1.8% reduction in vehicle violations in the month before AND after the inspection period
What Gets You Pulled Over? π
Inspectors focus on North American Standard Level I inspections, which include:
- π§ Brakes β the #1 reason for out-of-service orders
- π‘ Lights and signals
- π Tires and wheels
- π Driver documentation (CDL, medical card, HOS logs)
- βοΈ Coupling devices, exhaust systems, frames
How to Prepare NOW β
Don't wait until May. Start your prep today:
- β Pre-trip inspections β Do them thoroughly, EVERY day
- β Brake checks β Ensure proper adjustment and no air leaks
- β Lights β Check ALL lights including markers and reflectors
- β Tires β Minimum 4/32\" tread on steer tires, 2/32\" on drives
- β Documentation β CDL, medical card, registration, insurance current
- β ELD compliance β Make sure your HOS records are clean
The Smart Move π§
Research shows that compliance actually improves a full month BEFORE Roadcheck Week β meaning the industry self-corrects just knowing inspections are coming. Use this awareness to your advantage.
Get your truck inspected at a trusted shop BEFORE May. A professional alignment check and road simulator test can catch issues before an inspector does β and that's a lot cheaper than being put out of service on the highway. π§
May 12-14, 2026. Be ready.
