Ford Recall: 4.3 Million Vehicles for Trailer Module (26V104)
Detroit, MI — Ford Motor Company issued a massive recall affecting over 4.3 million vehicles in the United States for a defect in the Integrated Trailer Module that can cause loss of trailer brake and turn signal lights, or even total loss of trailer brake function 🚨🛻
Affected Vehicles (NHTSA ID: 26V104)
This recall includes Ford and Lincoln pickups from multiple years:
- 2021-2026 Ford F-150
- 2022-2026 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, F-550 SD
- 2022-2026 Ford Maverick
- 2024-2026 Ford Ranger
- 2023-2026 Ford F-600 SD (chassis cab)
- Also Lincoln SUVs and vans
The Problem: Trailer Module Loses Communication
The Integrated Trailer Module may lose communication with the vehicle's system, causing:
- ❌ Loss of trailer brake lights — other drivers can't see when you brake 🚦
- ❌ Loss of trailer turn signals — you can't signal lane changes
- ❌ Complete loss of trailer brake function — increases stopping distance and crash risk 💥
Solution: FREE Software Update
Ford will repair this issue completely free of charge through:
- Software update at Ford dealer, or
- Over-the-air (OTA) update if your vehicle supports it
Owner notification letters will begin mailing on March 23, 2026 📬
How to Know If My Vehicle Is Affected?
To check if your pickup is in the recall:
- Go to nhtsa.gov/recalls
- Enter your VIN (vehicle identification number)
- Look for recall 26V104
You can also call Ford at 1-866-436-7332 with your VIN.
Is It Safe to Drive In The Meantime?
If you have one of these vehicles and tow a trailer:
- ⚠️ Check trailer lights before each trip — make sure brakes and turn signals work
- 🔌 Check the electrical connector between vehicle and trailer
- 📞 Schedule your dealer appointment ASAP for the update
If you notice trailer lights not working or the module losing communication (error message on dashboard), safely pull over and contact the dealer.
Other Ford Recalls in March 2026
Ford also issued other recalls in March:
- 26V119: F-250/F-350 SD (2025-2026) — driveshaft separation
- 26V124 & 26V123: Loss of rearview camera image or inverted image
- 26V122: Loss of drive power from EGR valve failure (2025 Ranger and Maverick)
Context: Trailer Safety
Trailer systems (lights, brakes) are critical for road safety. A trailer without brake lights can cause serious accidents, especially at night or in bad weather 🌧️
