π¨ Massive Ford Recall β 4.3 Million Units
Ford Motor Company has announced one of the largest recalls in its history: over 4.3 million trucks and SUVs sold in the United States will be recalled due to a software defect in the trailer module.
According to reports from Reuters, Fox Business, WardsAuto, and USA Today, the issue affects vehicles from multiple model years, including some of the most popular pickups in the American market.
π§ What's the Problem?
The defect is in the trailer module software, a system that controls functions such as:
- Trailer lights
- Trailer brakes
- Connected trailer detection
- Backup camera system with trailer
The defective software can cause the vehicle to fail to properly detect the trailer or cause trailer lights and brakes to malfunction, representing a serious safety risk on the road.
π Affected Models
If you own one of these Ford trucks or SUVs, your vehicle could be included in the recall:
- Ford F-150 (multiple model years)
- Ford F-250 Super Duty
- Ford F-350 Super Duty
- Ford Expedition
- Lincoln Navigator
- Other Ford SUV models
USA Today published a complete list of affected models. Check your vehicle's VIN on Ford's official website or by calling your dealer.
π Additional GM Recalls
Ford isn't the only one with problems. General Motors also announced recalls this week:
- 222 trucks in Canada for airbags deploying inadvertently (Driving.ca)
- Nearly 12,000 pickups for risk of engine stalling while driving (FOX 32 Chicago)
- Two popular pickup models for dangerous airbag flaw (SlashGear)
β What to Do If You Have an Affected Vehicle?
If your Ford is on the recall list:
- Check your VIN at owner.ford.com
- Contact your nearest Ford dealer to schedule the repair
- The repair is FREE β the recall is the manufacturer's responsibility
- Software update β in most cases, the fix is an update that takes less than an hour
- While you wait, be careful when towing and manually check trailer lights before each trip
π οΈ Take Advantage and Check Your Truck
If you're taking your pickup to the dealer for the recall, take advantage and get a complete inspection. Especially if you tow frequently, it's a good time to:
- Check the suspension β towing puts extra stress on components
- Verify the alignment β trucks that pull heavy trailers often get misaligned
- Inspect brakes β critical system when towing
- Check tires β uneven wear can indicate suspension or alignment problems
At The Truck Savers, our free road simulator inspection detects problems in suspension, steering, and over 100 critical points. And with our professional alignment computer, we make sure your pickup or truck is perfectly aligned before getting back on the road.
