Ford Recalls 2,422 F-59/F-53 Stripped Chassis — Brake Pedal Won't Return

⚠️ SAFETY RECALL — F-59 & F-53 STRIPPED CHASSIS

Ford Motor Company is recalling 2,422 units of its F-59 and F-53 stripped chassis models from 2025-2026 due to a hydroboost brake system defect.

The problem: the brake pedal doesn't return to position after braking, causing stop lamps to stay on permanently.

📋 Recall Details

  • NHTSA Recall: 26V155
  • Affected models: Ford F-59 and F-53 stripped chassis
  • Model years: 2025-2026
  • Affected units: 2,422
  • Owner notifications: March 23-27, 2026

🚛 What Are the F-59 and F-53?

These aren't regular pickups — they're stripped chassis used as a base for:

  • Motorhomes (RVs) — Class A and Super C
  • Delivery trucks — UPS, FedEx, food trucks
  • Ambulances
  • Small buses
  • Specialized commercial vehicles

They're chassis sold without a body, so specialized companies can build the vehicle body on top.

❓ What's the Problem?

The defect is in the hydroboost brake assist system:

Defect:

  • The brake pedal doesn't return to its resting position after releasing your foot
  • This keeps the brake light switch activated
  • Result: stop lamps stay on permanently

🚨 Safety Risks:

  • Vehicles behind don't know when you're actually braking — lights are always on
  • Increased rear-end collision risk — especially in traffic or on highways
  • Confusion for other drivers — they see constant brake lights and assume you're not braking
  • Dead battery — permanently lit lights drain battery

🔧 What Will Ford Do?

Solution:

  • Ford will inspect the hydroboost brake system
  • If the defect is confirmed, they'll replace necessary parts
  • FREE OF CHARGE to the owner

Notifications:

  • Owner letters: March 23-27, 2026
  • Ford will contact registered owners directly

🔎 How Do I Know If My Vehicle Is Affected?

Problem Symptoms:

If you notice any of these symptoms, take your vehicle to the dealer immediately:

  • Brake pedal doesn't fully return after releasing your foot
  • Brake lights stay on permanently (check in a mirror or have someone look behind)
  • Pedal feels "sticky" or has abnormal resistance
  • Brake lights won't turn off when the vehicle is in Park

Check Your VIN:

  • NHTSA: nhtsa.gov/recalls
  • Ford: Search "Ford recalls" on Google and enter your VIN
  • Call Ford: 1-866-436-7332 (mention recall 26V155)

⚠️ Is It Safe to Drive the Vehicle?

If you notice brake lights staying on permanently:

  • You can drive it to the dealer for repair
  • Use extra caution — other drivers may not realize when you're actually braking
  • Increase following distance — give more space to the vehicle ahead
  • Use hand signals if necessary to warn vehicles behind

If the pedal is completely stuck or brakes aren't working properly, DO NOT DRIVE the vehicle — call Ford Roadside Assistance.

💼 For Commercial Fleets

  • Check all your 2025-2026 vehicles immediately
