FMCSA Launches Surprise Blitz in April 2026: $16,000 Fines for ELD Violations

April 2026 is not playing around. The FMCSA has just announced a surprise national inspection blitz focused directly on Electronic Logging Device (ELD) manipulation and Hours of Service (HOS) log falsification.

Officers are conducting checks on highways and even showing up unannounced at loading and unloading facilities. The worst part? If you're caught tampering with your ELD, fines can reach up to $16,000 per driver, plus an immediate Out of Service (OOS) order.

The federal agency is looking to eliminate fraud from "CDL mills" and enforce the exclusive use of devices listed on their official registry. Remember that they have recently removed multiple ELD brands from their approved list, so it's vital to check if your equipment is still certified.
