Red Alert: Diesel Surpasses $5.30 per Gallon Nationwide
Diesel prices have spiked 51% year-over-year. The US average hits $5.40 per gallon, choking Owner Operators.
The ghost of high fuel costs has struck again. This April 2026, the national average price for on-highway diesel has surpassed $5.30 per gallon. This represents a brutal 51% year-over-year increase, leaving small carriers and Owner Operators drowning in expenses.
Areas like California are already reporting diesel pushing $8 per gallon. The EIA (U.S. Energy Information Administration) expects this headache to continue, estimating national peaks up to $5.80 before the end of the month, driven by global instability and refining capacity issues.
What can you do about this madness? First, protect your fuel efficiency with a properly aligned truck (you can run it through our alignment computer for free in Houston). Second, if you are idling your truck at truck stops, you are burning your profits. Consider installing a Go Green APU auxiliary power unit, specifically designed to save you thousands of dollars annually in diesel while you rest in perfect climate control.
