CVSA Roadcheck Puts ELDs and Cargo Securement Back in the Spotlight
CVSA’s 2026 Roadcheck focused on ELD tampering and cargo securement, reminding truckers that clean inspections protect time, revenue and equipment.

North American truck inspectors put driver records and cargo securement under a brighter spotlight during this year’s CVSA International Roadcheck, and the early takeaway for fleets is simple: paperwork, ELD compliance and load securement still matter every day, not just during inspection week.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance held its annual International Roadcheck enforcement blitz May 12-14. According to Transport Topics, this year’s inspection push emphasized electronic logging device tampering and cargo securement, with inspectors checking trucks and drivers at weigh stations and temporary inspection sites across North America.
CVSA officials said final results are still being compiled, but early feedback points to cargo securement showing up high on the list of out-of-service violations. That matters for owner-operators and fleet managers because a single securement problem can delay a load, trigger fines, damage customer relationships and take a truck out of service when capacity is already tight.
The inspection week also had a market impact. Transport Topics cited DAT data showing spot linehaul rates jumped during Roadcheck week, including a sharp increase in refrigerated freight. That kind of movement often happens when some carriers park equipment, avoid inspection-heavy lanes or lose capacity to roadside enforcement.
For drivers, the lesson is practical: check ELD status before the trip, make sure logs match real activity, inspect straps/chains/binders before rolling, re-check securement after the first miles, and do not assume a “quick run” will avoid enforcement. Brake safety also remains in focus after CVSA conducted an unannounced Brake Safety Day in April.
The larger message for the trucking industry is that compliance is part of profitability. Clean inspections protect time, equipment, insurance standing and customer trust. For small carriers especially, avoiding one out-of-service event can be the difference between a profitable week and a costly setback.
