A Son Beat His Father, the Six-Time Truck Champion

A son beat his father in Race 2 at Most. Both ended up on the podium.

A Son Beat His Father, the Six-Time Truck Champion

A son beat his father in a truck race today, and then both of them stood on the podium. Lukas Hahn won Race 2 at Autodrom Most with Jochen Hahn — a six-time European champion — finishing second behind him.

It is the second time in 2026 the two have shared a podium. The last time, at Misano, the father took Race 3 from the son. Today the order flipped.

Who won what

Round four of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship ran its first two races at Most, in the Czech Republic.

  • Race 1Norbert Kiss, from his seventh pole of the season. It is his eleventh win of 2026. José Eduardo Rodrigues took second, Sascha Lenz third.
  • Race 1, Chrome categoryJohn Newell, fourth overall and his first Chrome win of the year. Lukas Hahn was fifth, Bradley Smith sixth.
  • Race 2Lukas Hahn, start to finish from pole, with Jochen Hahn second. Adam Lacko completed the top five.

Lukas earned that pole by finishing eighth overall in Race 1. The series inverts the top of the grid, so a mid-pack result in the morning becomes the front row in the afternoon. Nobody handed it to him, but the format is what put him there.

The number that matters to you is on the tires

Every truck in the championship is running Goodyear's new-for-2026 tire, built with 60 percent sustainable materials.

That is the line worth stopping on. Not because you are going to race, but because of where it is being proven. A racing truck puts more heat, more load and more lateral force through a tire in eleven laps than most working units see in a week, and it does it over and over with no margin for a soft compound going away.

Sustainable material in a tire has been sold as a compromise for years — greener, but softer, but slower to wear right. A championship is a hard place to hide that. If a 60 percent sustainable casing holds up under a race truck at Most, the argument that it cannot hold up under a loaded trailer on I-10 gets harder to make.

None of that means the tire on your steer axle is the same one. It means the technology is being run somewhere it cannot be quietly excused.

There is a second reason this series is worth a glance. A race truck is a Class 8 tractor with the trailer taken off and the governor moved, not a purpose-built prototype. The cab, the frame, the axle architecture and most of the driveline come from the same catalogue that built the unit in your yard. When a component survives a full European season of that treatment, it has been tested in a way no press release can fake.

What a race weekend actually proves about equipment

  • Failures show up under load, not at rest. Steffi Halm lost a gearbox as she lined up for Race 1 — not in the paddock, not on the warm-up. Then she went out in Race 2 and came from sixteenth to ninth.
  • Consistency beats a single fast lap. Kiss talked about building a gap and the truck staying consistent, and that is what eleven wins in a season looks like.
  • A strategy can be worth more than a position. Newell said he did not fight Jochen because the Chrome points were the objective. He finished fourth overall and won his category.

Still to come on Sunday

Round four continues at Most tomorrow, all times local:

  • 08:00 — 15-minute warm-up.
  • 09:25 — Qualifying 4-5-6.
  • 13:15 — Race 3, eleven laps.
  • Race 4 follows, also eleven laps.

The preventive read

A race truck and a working truck fail the same way: at the joint, under load, on the lap where everything is already at its limit. The difference is that a race team measures between sessions and you get to measure whenever you decide to.

The habit that carries over is the boring one. Look at the tires before the day starts, not after something feels wrong. Wear tells you about the axle underneath it long before the axle says anything itself.

At The Truck Savers that reading is the free inspection, and it is the same measurement a race team takes between runs. Los fierros nunca mienten.
